Volley x Aretha Brown

Volley has teamed up with Naarm-based artist and Gumbaynggirr woman Aretha Brown on a limited-edition Baseline sneaker and sock that celebrates creativity, culture and everyday wear. Drawing on her work for the National Gallery of Australia’s After the Rain Triennial, the design features her signature black-and-white style and symbolic storytelling, honouring her connection to Country, community and truth-telling.

The limited-edition Baseline sneaker and sock are designed for everyday wear, using Aretha Brown’s graphic language as the focal point. Her signature black-and-white approach is applied with intention, turning the shoe into a wearable canvas rather than a statement piece made to sit still.

The design references themes explored in her work for the National Gallery of Australia, drawing on storytelling, symbolism and connection to Country. Every element is considered, from line work to placement, ensuring the artwork remains clear, wearable and true to her practice.

Built on Volley’s Baseline silhouette, the collaboration balances art, function and durability. It’s a sneaker and sock made to be worn regularly, while carrying meaning beyond the product itself.
